Lumenis Highlights ActiveFX™ and Scientific Sessions Supporting its Technology at the 65th Annual American Academy of Dermatology Meeting

Strengthens Innovation and Technology Leadership Position in Aesthetic Lasers Based on Science, Quality and Results

February 2, 2007 - Yokneam, Israel

Lumenis® Ltd., a global developer, manufacturer and seller of laser, light-based and radiofrequency devices for medical, aesthetic, ophthalmic, dental and veterinary applications, announced today the company will highlight its exciting ActiveFX procedure at the upcoming annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in Washington, DC (USA). ActiveFX™ and several other key innovations by Lumenis, such as the Aluma™ Skin Renewal System and Lumenis One™ with 4th generation IPL® (Intense Pulsed Light) technology, will be discussed in scientific sessions by leading dermatologists throughout the annual meeting.

In a single treatment, the ActiveFX procedure provides remarkable results with minimal downtime using the UltraPulse® Encore™ CO2 laser.  ActiveFX treats common complaints prevalent in the aging yet active ‘baby boomer’ population such as fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, freckles and ’age spots’, as well as other signs of photo-aging and sun damage.

“ActiveFX fractional CO2 resurfacing represents yet another exciting first for Lumenis,” commented Harel Beit-On, Chairman of the Board at Lumenis. “While we have over 10 years of proven clinical efficacy with our UltraPulse technology, ActiveFX is the first fractional CO2 resurfacing procedure offering both the minimal downtime associated with fractional procedures and the ‘gold standard’ results of our CO2 laser.  Physicians and patients around the world have responded favorably to this procedure, which we believe has broad appeal and demonstrates impressive efficacy.”

“What we are seeing in my practice is that increasingly patients are willing to tolerate a short downtime to achieve more dramatic results.  ActiveFX provides significant improvement in texture and reduction in dyschromia with a low risk of adverse effects and minimal downtime.  My patients have been very satisfied with the ActiveFX procedure,” reports David Goldberg, MD, of Westwood, NJ (USA).

About ActiveFX

The ActiveFX procedure works by applying CO2 laser energy in a very narrow, scanned beam. This results in the creation of very tiny columns of thermal damage that penetrate deep down to the dermis and stimulate the growth of new collagen. The energy is applied in a "fractional" way – that is, the tiny columns of thermal damage are spaced so that tissue between each column is spared – resulting in more rapid healing, typically only 4 -7 days. ActiveFX differs from other aesthetic procedures employing fractional approaches because it uses CO2 laser energy, which is considered to be the optimal treatment technology.
